Creative
Information for Actors and Other Artists
As WA's State Theatre Company, Black Swan is engaged with the theatre communities of Western Australia and around Australia. We welcome theatre artists and maintain programs to provide access and support for local performers and others.
Actors
General Auditions
Black Swan runs General Auditions usually once a year. These are open auditions for actors who have completed training, are new to Perth or are working in local ‘fringe’ theatre; and who feel ready to take on the main stage at WA’s State Flagship Theatre Company.
If this is you, then send a photo and CV via email or post expressing your interest in General Auditions to:
Artistic Coordinator
Black Swan State Theatre Company
Box 3232, Broadway PO
Crawley WA 6009
Email: chantelle@bsstc.com.au
You can do this at any time and you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt confirming you are now on our list. When we organize our next round of General Auditions and have a place for you, you will receive notification of your time slot. Please prepare an audition piece of a maximum of 5 minutes.
The HotBed Ensemble: Black Swan’s Emerging Artist Development Program
In 2006 Black Swan initiated a new program to help develop the careers of emerging artists in WA. The program provides skills development, production experience and opportunities for creative interaction with other talented emerging artists and with the artistic staff of Black Swan. The HotBed is open to actors, directors and designers (lighting, set, costume, sound, multimedia, etc.) who are selected via audition or interview for an eight-month program. For more details click here. For application advice please contact information@bsstc.com.au.
Writers
Black Swan does not accept unsolicited scripts i.e. scripts sent by their authors with no previous contact with our company, due to very limited resources.
Playwrights living in WA are encouraged to send their scripts to Stages (the WA Playwrights’ Consortium) and those living elsewhere in Australia to the Australian Writers Guild for a professional assessment. You can contact Stages at (08)9201 1168 or stages@stageswa.com, and the Australian Writers Guild at (02)9319 0339 or admin@awg.com.au.
Directors, Designers and Others
Black Swan is always keen to hear from new creative artists. Contact our Artistic Coordinator, Chantelle at chantelle@bsstc.com.au.
