Information for Actors and Artists

As WA's State Theatre Company, Black Swan is engaged with the theatre communities of Western Australia and around Australia. We welcome theatre artists and maintain programs to provide access and support for local performers and others.

Actors

Auditions

At Black Swan we work closely with individual directors to cast all of our shows. Black Swan’s Artistic Director, artistic staff and those directors engaged by the Company generally have a good knowledge of local actors.  We also liaise closely with most theatrical agents in Australia. Black Swan does not usually hold general auditions and if we do details will be advised on our website.

Please don’t send us your CV or headshot but do feel free to invite us to see you in any productions.

Emerging Artists

In 2011, Black Swan expanded its emerging artist development program to operate across studio and mainstage productions, enabling the Company to work with a growing number of emerging artists and offering them a broader learning experience. For more details click here.

Writers

Black Swan does not accept unsolicited scripts i.e. scripts sent by their authors with no previous contact with our company, due to very limited resources.

Playwrights living in WA are encouraged to send their scripts to Stages (the WA Playwrights’ Consortium) and those living elsewhere in Australia to the Australian Writers Guild for a professional assessment. You can contact Stages at (08)9201 1168 or stages@stageswa.com, and the Australian Writers Guild at (02)9319 0339 or admin@awg.com.au.

Black Swan has created the Richard Burton Award for Playwriting, to be awarded annually to Australian playwrights whose work demonstrates an original and outstanding theatrical voice. For more details click here.
