Nicola Forrest has been announced as Black Swan State Theatre Company’s honorary “Number One Subscriber” for 2012 and 2013 in recognition of her and her family’s philanthropic leadership and support of theatre in Western Australia. Mrs Forrest was named Black Swan’s Number One Subscriber by Artistic Director Kate Cherry during the opening night celebrations for Black Swan’s current production Arcadia on 21 March.
Nicola Forrest regularly attends Black Swan’s performances and in 2011 she and her husband presented Western Australia’s four major performing arts companies with a generous donation of Fortescue Metals Group shares. The donation has given Black Swan further security to ensure we can provide quality theatre and education throughout WA in the future, with dividend payments flowing into Black Swan’s annual programs and activities.
Nicola Forrest said: “I have been fortunate to enjoy many of Black Swan’s wonderful performances myself, and am delighted that our family is able to play our part in ensuring that Black Swan can continue to grow and bring high calibre theatre to the Western Australian community.”
“It is important that people within the community contribute to the arts and education in WA to ensure it is a vibrant and culturally diverse city for us, the residents, our children and the broader community into the future.” Kate Cherry, Black Swan’s Artistic Director said, “Nicola and Andrew Forrest are true leaders in their commitment to supporting health, education and the arts in Western Australia through philanthropic giving and personal engagement. Private giving is becoming increasingly more important as a source of income for performing arts companies and other not-for-profit organisations. Nicola and Andrew are setting a shining example of giving back to the community, and we hope those who already support a creative Western Australia through giving and those who are considering giving for the first time will be inspired and encouraged by the example that Nicola and many others in Western Australia are setting.”
As Black Swan’s “Number One Subscriber”, Nicola Forrest will assist Black Swan in highlighting the different opportunities of supporting the Company through private giving.
Subscriptions to Black Swan’s 2012 season will be available until 10 August 2012, with 5 Play, 4 Play and 3 Play subscription packages currently on sale.
