Black Swan in association with the RAC present the new 2009 HotBed Ensemble

Black Swan State Theatre Company has selected the new HotBed Ensemble members for 2009. A large number of high calibre performers were auditioned for this year‘s six positions and with them they brought a wealth of talent and experience. There were also a great deal of applicants for the creative vacancies of lighting designer, sound designer and set and costume designer all of whom were equally gifted. After much deliberation, Black Swan State Theatre Company and Adam Mitchell, HotBed Director, are proud to present the HotBed Ensemble cast and creatives for 2009:

Cast:

Arielle Gray – Arielle’s theatre credits include The Laramie Project for Black Swan, A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Shakespeare WA (Shakespeare in the Park), Duck, Duck, Goose for Gray Ruby Productions and Short Four Play – The Benefit of Hindsight for Longwood Productions. Arielle has a BA jointly delivered by WAAPA and SOCA.

Natalie Holmwood –Natalie has appeared in productions such as The Female of the Species and The Visit for Black Swan as well as Lipstick and Hessian for The Blue Room and Jo Morris Productions. Natalie has a BA jointly delivered by WAAPA and SOCA.

Jacinta John – Jacinta’s stage credits include Flying Solo for Dajevude, Godzone and Holiday in the Sun for Barestage, Vicious Streaks and Instant Karma for Roar Theatre Company, Skylight for New Theatre and Love, Madness and Poetry for Carnivale.

Kazimir Sas - Kazimir appeared in the film Teesh and Trude and was writer/director for the short film Little Charmer which appeared at the Official Selection Saint Kilda Film Festival.

Tom O'Sullivan – Tom’s theatre credits include Death of a Salesman for Ensemble Theatre, Dying City, The Illusion and Terminus for Darlinghurst Theatre, The Tempest and The Man Who for Harlos Productions.

Will O'Mahony – Will has appeared in The Haunting of Daniel Gartrell for Perth Theatre Company and Shakespeare’s R&J for Riverside Theatre. Will has received both an Advanced Diploma and a Certificate II from WAAPA.


Creatives:

Alicia Clements (Set & Costume Design) - Alicia has worked on Lysistrata, Noises Off, The Innocent Mistress and Aftershocks for WAAPA. Alicia has also been awarded David Hough Award for Outstanding Achievement in BPA (Set and Costume Design). Alicia graduated from WAAPA in 2008. 

Trent Suidgeest (Lighting Design) – Trent’s lighting credits for Riverina Theatre Company include Les Miserables, Summer Rain and GASP - A Gilbert and Sullivan Parody. Trent graduated from WAAPA in 2008.

Ben Collins (Sound Design) – Graduating from WAAPA in 2003, Ben has worked as a composer for the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, Mace Francis Orchestra and St Hildas Concert Orchestra. Ben has been awarded the 2008 WA Screen Award for Best Original Score for Dox, the 2004 WA Youth Jazz Orchestra award for Scholarship for Contribution and the 2004 Jaxter Artist Award in the Jazz Category for Big Mama Nelson.

The HotBed Ensemble is Black Swan’s professional development stream for emerging Western Australian artists which aims to nurture, stimulate and showcase a selection of Perth's most imaginative and talented theatre-makers.

In partnership with the RAC, the HotBed Ensemble’s Principal Sponsor, the program includes exclusive skills development and workshop opportunities, close contact with Black Swan artists and professional wages during rehearsals and performance seasons.

After the success of Portraits of Modern Evil, The Caucasian Chalk Circle and The Laramie Project, 2009 will see The HotBed Ensemble produce the world premiere of a new Australian work, The Dark Room by Angela Betzien, and pool (no water), a daring play by controversial playwright Mark Ravenhill (author of Shopping and F**ing).
