Production & Design Element Workshops

Production and Design Element Workshops

Black Swan offers a range production and design workshops which are beneficial for students undertaking drama examinations. Each workshop is 2 hours in duration with a maximum of 25 participants. All participants receive a certificate of participation, including the teacher, which can be used towards WACOT professional learning.

TARGET AUDIENCE: High School Drama Students Yrs 10-12      
BOOKINGS: 4 weeks before the desired date

How to Write about Lighting for Exams
Curriculum Links:
Drama Course; Content: Spaces of Performance, Design and Technologies and Management Skills and Processes.
Details: A theoretical and interactive 2 hour workshop devised to assist students with undertaking the process involved in lighting design and how to write about lighting in exams. Our visiting artist will concentrate on the lighting design element and will place lighting in the context of a full production. They will discuss the role of the designer and how they interact with the rest of the design team. Together, students and the designer will identify key aspects of the design element and the responsibilities of the designer. Students will be given activities which help them to identify lighting elements within a text, and the vocabulary needed to write about lighting in exams. The workshop is 2 hours in duration with a maximum of 25 participants.

COST:   $300 for 2 hours ex GST & mileage
    
In School PDE Workshop
Curriculum Links: Drama Course; Content: Spaces of Performance, Design and Technologies and Management Skills and Processes.
Details: Teacher to select from: stage management, production management, sound, lighting, costume, set and props design.
A practical and interactive workshop devised to assist students with undertaking the process involved in production design elements when working on a production. Our visiting artists will concentrate on the design element specified by the teacher and will place the element in the context of a full production and discuss the role of the designer and part of a team. Together, students and the designer will identify key aspects of the design element and the responsibilities of the designer. The workshop is 2 hours or a full day in duration with a maximum of 25 participants.

COST:  $300 for 2 hours, $700 for a full day ex GST & mileage

Set Design and Model Making
Curriculum Links: Drama Course; Content: Spaces of Performance, Design and Technologies and Management Skills and Processes.  Arts;  Using Arts Skills, Arts Techniques, Arts Technologies and Processes, Communicating Arts Ideas.
Details: This practical and interactive workshop addresses the creative process of design whilst teaching the students the importance of scale, the spatial environment, line, colour and texture. This workshop can be tailored to address the specifics of your chosen venue. The workshop  is 2 x 2.5 hours or a full day in duration with a maximum of 20 participants.

COST:  $700 ex GST & mileage

Artsworkshop Excursion
Curriculum Links:
Drama Course; Content: Spaces of performance, Design and Technologies and Management Skills and Processes.
Details: A chance to get behind the scenes and observe the construction of a Black Swan set and props in one of the most prestigious scenery construction workshops in Australia. Students get a rare chance to view the set model and part completed set prior to anyone else seeing it in the theatre. The tour will be conducted by Black Swan State Theatre Company’s Production Manager, who will give in depth details about the show.The workshop is 1.5 hours in the morning with a maximum of 20 participants

COST:  $200 ex GST & mileage

Details: An interactive workshop that assists students with the process involved in marketing a performing arts production. Our visiting tutor will concentrate on the marketing element specified by the teacher and will place the element in the context of a full production.The workshop is 1 hours in duration with a maximum of 25 participants.
