Message from Black Swan Patron Sally Burton
As Patron of Black Swan State Theatre Company, I am passionate about the arts in Perth and Black Swan needs your help to secure the future of theatre in WA.
It is an exciting time for Black Swan as the State theatre company and an important time for the city of Perth to be re-invigorated.
There is minimal funding to support Black Swan’s operational costs to run a state theatre program for West Australians. Black holds a strong vision to become a bigger player in the Australian arts arena. I am confident they have the potential to become critically acclaimed and be internationally recognised for work.
Operational costs to produce and present theatre are extremely high which means funding that could be spent on bringing to life the creative vision of our own local WA talent is limited. Basic theatre costs such as costumes, set and lighting designs, venue hire and rehearsal space is costly and it’s up to Black Swan to cover those costs. Government funding allocated to the Company covers approximately 49% of total costs, so Black Swan must rely on the generosity of the people of Perth to cover the shortfall in the budget.
I encourage you to be part of theatre in WA by giving.
