The Web

Originally from Western Australia, playwright Kate Mulvany has fashioned a gripping and contemporary mystery about a friendship that goes horribly wrong between two young men in a fictional regional town in Australia.

Travis is headstrong and confident, with the world at his feet. Fred is shy, isolated and dealing with the death of his father. When Travis takes Fred under his wing to help him with a social studies assignment, it triggers an intriguing chain of events that ends in a vicious attack. As the police investigate, it becomes clear that nothing is straightforward in the collision between the virtual and real worlds of the teenage imagination.

Kate Mulvany, writer of The Danger Age (winner of 2004 Philip Parsons Award) and The Seed (winner of the 2007 Sydney Theatre Awards for Best Independent Production), delivers a masterful exploration of social isolation and cyberspace crime.

“After her highly acclaimed production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, I am delighted to welcome back one of Perth’s most loved directors, Marcelle Schmitz.” Kate Cherry

"Her plays deal with colossal subjects …, but she effortlessly weaves in these themes creating memorable characters and entertaining stories that have managed to touch a chord with a wide audience." Australian Stage Online

Featuring Akos Armont, Robin Goldsworthy, Susan Prior, Igor Sas and Amanda Woodhams.
