Theatre Thrills & Skills Courses

Black Swan offers a community program of theatre skills development classes. Each workshop runs over a 10 week period, with weekly evening classes, led by some of Perth’s most experienced professional practising artists. The courses are open to anyone aged 16 and over and endorsed by the Curriculum Council to contribute points towards WACE (WA Certificate of Education).

Click below to find out more about each course and download an enrolment form.

Term 1:   Monologue Mayhem & Audition Techniques with Adam Mitchell
Date: Thu 4 February - Thu 1 April

Term 2:   Improvisation with Sam Longley
Date: Thur 22 April - Thur 1 July

Term 3:  Voice Care & Control with Kathryn Hanlon
Date: Thur 22 July - Thur 23 September

Term 4:  Movement for Theatre with Claudia Alessi
Date: Thurs 14 October - Thur 16 December

Black Swan's Theatre Thrills & Skills Workshops are endorsed by Western Australia's Curriculum Council as a personal development course. Participation in the Theatre Thrills & Skills workshops will earn student points towards Secondary Graduation. Students wishing to receive Curriculum Council Endorsement for the course are required to develop a personal development folio/journal collating their work during the course. The student must be mentored by their classroom drama teacher, careers advisor or principal, who then marks the folio at the end of the course in relation to 'evidence of achievement'. The teacher must then upload a 'requirements met' grade to the Curriculum Council. Students must be advised that they cannot rely on tutors to provide them with 'handouts', but they are responsible for gathering their own evidence of involvement in the course. This may be as simple as keeping a detailed journal about their involvement in the classes.
